MEP/FP Engineering Services were provided for design and construction of the Central Plant serving the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. The amusement park includes over 20 attractions spread out over 5 themed islands: Marvel Superhero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent (now converted to the Harry Potter Wizarding World), and Suess Landing, 23 restaurants, lounges and concessions, 27 retail spaces, and a man-made lake to divide the islands. The Central Plant provided centralized chilled water (2,000 tons) for the various venues, allowing Ownership to reap the inherent economies of the design. The water distribution system employed multiple pumps working off differential system pressure in conjunction with the shifting cooling load. Cistern mounted field erected cooling towers with vertical turbine pumps were employed to cool the chillers and enhance their performance.
